Frank Woods

font family from Wiescher Design, added March 14thFrank Woods
“Frank Woods” is a wooden typeface based on the form of Franklin Gothic Heavy. The three cuts fit together and enable the user to create a lot of impressive variations. Enjoy! The amount of points in the font make it impossible to create Opentype versions, but this Truetype version works excellent on MACs and PCs.

Medusa

font family from Re-Type, added March 15thMedusa
Medusa is Ramiro Espinoza’s homage to 19th Century Catalonian pointed pen calligraphy. The starting-off point in the creation of the typeface was an analysis of the historical models of formal English handwriting and the ways in which those styles had been adapted to the typographic technologies of different eras. A representative example of such adaptations involves the group of letters which, in connected scripts, join from near the top of their x-height, namely “b”, “o”, “v” and “w”.

Quadon

font family from Rene Bieder, added March 15thQuadon
Quadon was designed to fill the gap between traditional serifs and the lasting trend of using sans serif fonts for contemporary design. The result is a modern, clear and infinitely flexible interpretation of slab serif fonts. The open shapes and a large x-height keep the font legible in small sizes while the short descender supports the compact heart and strength of a slab serif. Quadon has a wide range of typographic features and alternative glyphs to create your own and unique version of it.
It comes in nine different weights with matching italics. From the sensitive but sharp thinner weights to the punchy and powerful heavy weights, Quadon is well-suited for a wide range of versatile tasks.

PR-Uncial

font family from PR Fonts, added March 18thPR-Uncial
This font is readable, yet with a bit of weirdness, occupying a space between Classical Capitals and modern lowercase letters. In place of a lower case, it presents a duplicate set of scaled-down capitals. The Alt caps variants have letters all one size but offers a choice between letters closer to the classical forms, and those with more of a medieval influence. Minuscule contains some of the same capital letters as “PR Uncial Altcaps”, but they are designed to fit with these small letters in a dropped position.

Albrecht Pfister™

font family from Proportional Lime, added March 18thAlbrecht Pfister™
Herr Pfister was a printer in the city of Bamberg Bavaria. He is known to have published nine works. And it has been contentiously argued that he printed the “36 line Bible.” He was responsible for two innovations. The first was printing in his native German language and the second was the use of woodblock prints to add illustrations to the text. These were both first with the use of movable type. He was heavily influenced by Gutenberg’s typefaces but there are a range of notable and also subtle differences between the two men’s output. He was known to be active in the industry from about 1460 to his death in 1466. This font was specifically based on his “Biblia Paperum.”

ARB-187 Moderne Caps AUG-47

font family from The Fontry, added March 19thARB-187 Moderne Caps AUG-47
Beginning in January, 1932, Becker, at the request of then-editor E. Thomas Kelly, supplied SIGNS of the Times magazine’s new Art and Design section with an alphabet a month, a project predicted to last only two years. Misjudging the popularity of the “series”, it instead ran for 27 years, ending finally two months before Becker’s death in 1959, for a grand total of 320 alphabets, a nearly perfect, uninterrupted run. In late 1941, almost ten years after the first alphabet was published, 100 of those alphabets were compiled and published in bookform under the title, “100 Alphabets”, by Alf R. Becker.

Heraldica Script

font family from Sudtipos, added yesterdayHeraldica Script
Ornamented scripts are a Koziupa/Paul specialty, and Heraldica is one of their most expressive. It attains the very definition of deluxe by conjoining the classic thin-and-thick script treatment with thin-only counterpart strokes, then it goes the extra mile with a varied complement of overlaid flourishes. The usual assortment of multiple alternates and ending forms pushes it even further in class and versatility.

NaNa Arabic

font family from Naghi Naghachian, added yesterdayNaNa Arabic
NaNa Arabic is a new creation of Naghi Naghashian. It was developed in 2012/2013 on the basis of specific research and analysis of Arabic characters and definition of their structure. This innovation is a contribution to the modernisation of Arabic typography, giving the font design of Arabic letters real typographic arrangement and providing greater typographic flexibility. This step was necessary after more than two hundred years of relative stagnation in Arabic font design.
NaNa Arabic supports Arabic, Persian and Urdu. It also includes proportional and tabular numerals for the supported languages. The NaNa Arabic Font Family is available in four weights: Thin, Light, Regular and Bold. The design of this font family is inspired by two classic scripts: Kufic and Naskh. The quasi-geometric character of Kofic melds with the calligraphic grace of Naskh, which was invented by Iben Moghleh, an Iranian savant of the ninth century. He lived in Baghdad and was assassinated at the instigation of an Abbasid caliph. He was a polymath and a renowned scholar. I dedicate the design of this font family to the memory of this great man.
