Newt Serif

font family from Looseleaf Fonts, added March 21st
Newt Serif has been described as looking as though it were “drawn by the light of mystic moons”. It’s a very friendly face, with a strong calligraphic bent and no sharp corners to be found. The italics are of a freer spirit than the romans, featuring some intriguingly designed letterforms (for example: ‘E’, ‘g’, ‘s’, and ‘y’). Newt Serif is light-hearted, but still serious and comfortable enough for longer passages of text.

Solveig

font family from Looseleaf Fonts, added March 21st
Solveig is a stressed sans that draws inspiration from calligraphy and classical letterforms. Its ascenders and descenders are long and expressive; in place of finials, its terminals taper to points. Its name comes from Edvard Grieg’s “Solveig’s Song,” a quiet but emotional piece that informed the design process the whole way. Solveig is well suited for display, but remains very readable at smaller sizes in longer passages.

PR-Scrolls

Inspired by food labels, signs and coats of arms, PR-Scrolls is a collection of images which can be used for framing text in contexts where antiquity, craftsmanship, or traditional quality are conveyed. There are several sets of glyphs which work together to make a variety of shapes, or banners of custom length.

Tabac Slab

font family from Suitcase Type Foundry, added March 22nd
Tabac Slab was created by combining several contradictory influences, the result of which is a universal linear font. The combination of brisk serifs and refined calligraphic details in the structure of the characters serves to create an original concept that mixes influences from both book and advertising graphics. Serifs aid legibility in long texts, while small drawn details realise their full potential in sizes of twenty-four points and larger.
The basis for our Egyptienne was Tabac Sans, with which Slab logically forms a harmonic duo. The addition of bracket-less serifs caused the typeface to thicken and become solidly anchored on the lines, giving a firm answer to all typographers who like to complain about the slight exuberance of grotesque fonts.
